About Kelsey

Kelsey is a miniature painter (that is, a painter of miniatures - she herself is a standard 1:1 scale human) who hates talking about herself in the 3rd person. I’ve been a mini painting fanatic since the moment I first touched paintbrush to plastic dragon. After a couple years of painting commissions in my free time, I decided to take a big leap… I started Khromatic Miniatures and have joyfully been a full-time commission painter ever since!

An artist’s statement, of sorts

I think most artists hope that their work will inspire big ideas, deep thoughts, strong feelings in the people that see it. As a mini painter I don’t have to hope. I know that the miniatures I paint for people are stand-ins for complex characters and creatures navigating unique and dangerous worlds. They are physical touchstones for the big ideas and strong feelings that make up countless nights of telling stories and gaming with friends.

I am drawn to fantasy and the exploration of color. While sometimes that means painting a psychedelic knight, like the one on this page, it can also mean finding the nuanced pastels that make up the shadows in a white dragon’s scales or mimicking the orange reflections of torchlight across worn leather.
